Miraculous escape for RTC passengers

Special Correspondent

TIRUPATI: Forty pilgrims coming down the Tirumala hills on board the State-owned Road Transport Corporation (RTC) bus had a miraculous escape on Thursday when the front axle of the vehicle broke and the wheel came off.

Eyewitness accounts said that the bus ploughed through for some distance and halted. As the vehicle fell across the road, traffic on the entire ghat road was thrown out of gear for nearly an hour. Traffic was restored after TTD and RTC staff, with the help of stranded pilgrims, shoved the bus aside. No one was injured.

Staff Reporter in Rajahmundry writes: Passengers aboard a private bus had a miraculous escape when it caught fire. According to the fire officer, D.R.B. Raju, a private luxury bus that was going to Visakhapatnam from Hyderabad caught fire near Lala Cheruvu around 12 p.m. Auto drivers first saw smoke on top of the bus. On being alerted, the driver stopped the vehicle and all the 22 passengers got down. Later, fire service personnel put out the fire.
