HYDERABAD: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has turned down the appeal of film actress, Vijayashanti, that its leaders holding ministerial posts give them up and join her in the struggle for separate Telangana. The TRS chief coordinators -- K. Yadagiri Reddy, S. Madhusudhanachary and Satish Mahajan -- told reporters here on Thursday that the party used the posts to help in securing statehood for Telangana. It would be futile to give them up. They said Ms. Vijayashanti was a newcomer to politics of Telangana. She was yet to gain perfection in her new role. In any case, the TRS was not worried over who championed the cause of Telangana as long as the goal was common to all. The TRS leaders also rejected the reported move of the State Government to set up regional development boards. It would be an `anti-Telangana' measure and an insult to the people of the region. They warned of serious consequences if the move was not withdrawn. They criticised Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, of working against the spirit of coalition politics by mooting the idea of regional boards. What purpose had the Telangana Regional Committee served in the past?, they asked.
Naidu blamed for violence
At a separate press conference, Youth Services Minister, T. Harish Rao, and MLAs, Padma Devender Reddy, T. Jayaprakash Reddy and S. Babu Rao, held the TDP president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, responsible for the violence that broke out at Ramayampet during his tour on Thursday. They said Mr. Naidu set out on the tour with hired men from the city in a `pre-meditated move' to trigger violence.
