`Work to build India of Rajiv's dreams'

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday exhorted the people to work tirelessly, honestly and selflessly to build the India of Rajiv Gandhi's dream. He was speaking at a function organised here by the Nehru Brigade under the leadership of former Deputy Mayor Ramesh Dutta.

The team has brought to the Capital an urn carrying "holy soil'' from the former Prime Minister's martyrdom spot at Sriperumbudur and would be immersing it in the Ganges.

Sunil Dutt's death condoled

NEW DELHI: The Bharat Scouts & Guides has condoled the death of the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Sunil Dutt, in Mumbai on Wednesday. At a meeting held at its headquarters in the Capital on Thursday, it remembered the departed leader as a great pillar of support and strength to the organisation. Several scouts and guides who were present on the occasion also recalled the keen interest that Mr. Dutt took in the organisation's activities. They also pledged to follow the path shown by him.

NDPL advisory

NEW DELHI: North Delhi Power Limited (NDPL) on Thursday urged all its consumers to check the credentials of workers who visit their residences claiming to represent the power utility.

As some individuals posing as officials from NDPL's enforcement department or meter installation agencies were offering illegal services to consumers in return for money, the company has issued photo I-cards to all its employees as well as contract workers.

According to a NDPL release, a case was reported from Roop Nagar where five men carrying fake NDPL I-cards were caught red-handed extorting money from a consumer. They were apparently threatening to book the consumer for power theft as his meter was tampered with.

In case of doubt, consumers can report the matter to the nearest NDPL office or ring up 55111912.

PNB's ladies' branch inaugurated

NEW DELHI: The Punjab National Bank's ladies' branch was inaugurated by its Chairman-cum-Managing Director, S.C. Gupta, at Vikaspuri here this past weekend. The branch will be managed exclusively by women. This is PNB's 1,111th centralised banking branch in the country and 111th in the Capital.

Assault bid foiled

NEW DELHI: A young man allegedly tried to criminally assault a minor girl at Uttam Nagar in West Delhi on Thursday. He is absconding.

According to the police, the incident occurred when the girl was alone at home. Her neighbour, Rahul, allegedly entered the house and tried to force himself on her. However, her mother returned home around the same time and raised an alarm. Rahul fled from the spot. A case has been registered at Uttam Nagar police station and a hunt launched for him.
