CHITRADURGA: B. Satyanarayana, Minister of State for Rural Water Supply, has said that the Union Government has released Rs. 118.37 crores for various drinking water and sanitation schemes in the last two days. Disclosing this at a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Satyanarayana expressed satisfaction over the release of funds. "We have received the amount at the right time. We will utilise the amount judiciously to solve the drinking water problems in the State,'' he said. An instalment of Rs. 77.35 crores, which is 50 per cent of the amount allocated this year to the State, has been released to take up regular schemes of Rajiv Gandhi Drinking Water Mission. A sum of Rs. 10.42 crores has been released to take up Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme. Another instalment of Rs. 30.60 crores has been released for the implementation of Total Sanitation Campaign, he explained. Under the Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme, 15 per cent of the amount will be reserved for addressing water quality-related problems in rural areas and five per cent will be reserved for sanitation programmes, he said. Narayanaswamy, Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Panchayat, was present.
