Mayawati asks bureaucrats to act impartially

ALLAHABAD: Asking bureaucrats to act in an impartial manner, BSP Supremo Mayawati today said civil servants should not get tempted to win favours of the ruling party as a regime change would get them in a "tight spot" in such a situation.

"Civil servants should act in an impartial manner and strictly follow the rule book. They must not get tempted to win favours of the ruling party as a change of government could have them in a tight spot," the former U.P. Chief Minister said addressing an election rally here in support of Puja Pal, the party's candidate for the June 2 by-poll from Allahabad West Assembly seat. She also exhorted her polling agents to be on alert on the polling day and "thwart any attempts by opponents to influence voting or tamper with the EVMs in the guise of polling or security officials."

Accusing the Samajwadi Party of allowing criminals to roam freely in the State, Mayawati alleged that the regime was totally dependent on the mafia for its survival. Supporting the candidature of Puja Pal, slain BSP MLA Raju Pal's wife for the Allahabad West by-poll, Mayawati asserted her decision to field Puja was not driven by the motive to get sympathy in her favour but was a result of the "courage shown by a young girl widowed just a few days after her marriage." The former U.P. Chief Minister also said that she hoped to receive the support of all sections of the society. — PTI
