MANGALORE: Two persons of a group of seven, who had gone fishing in the Netravati on Tuesday, drowned at Kemmanugundi in Balthila village in Bantwal Town police station limits. Police gave the names of the dead as Dooje Lobo (67) and his grandson, Prasad Lobo (15). The incident took place when Dooje Lobo tried to rescue Prasad from drowning in a whirlpool. The others in the group rescued Lancy Lobo, who was also caught in the whirlpool, the police added.
Killed
An autorickshaw driver, who was refuelling his vehicle, died when a goods vehicle hit him at Apperpade on the Vittla-Ukkuda road on Wednesday. Police said the victim, Shivappa Naika (40), who sustained grievous injuries, was rushed to the Vittla government hospital, where he died. Vittla police have registered a case and are investigating.
