Canadian naval ship

to call at Kochi

KOCHI: Canadian Naval Ship HMCS Winnipeg will arrive in Kochi on a routine visit from May 27 to 31. The ship has a complement of 33 officers and 209 sailors. During the ship's stay on Kochi shores, the officers and sailors will interact with the Southern Naval Command and will visit various professional training schools of Navy. They will also play a friendly football and volleyball matches with the Indian Navy. — Staff Reporter

Dharna to be staged

KOCHI: The Kizhakkambalam panchayat committee of the Janadhipathya Mahila Association has alleged that `political interference' has been hampering the functioning of Kudumbasree units there. Addressing mediapersons here on Thursday, Daisy Issac, association secretary, said that a dharna would be held before the Kizhakkambalam panchayat office on Friday, to protest against this. She alleged that there was rampant corruption in the functioning of the units. — Staff Reporter

Film distributors

form ad hoc panel

KOCHI: An ad hoc committee was formed by the members of the Film Distributors Association by dissolving the earlier executive committee at a meeting held here on Thursday. Navodaya Appachan, Central Pictures Shaji, Fasil, Pavamani are the members of the ad hoc district committee. They will call a General Body meeting on or before June 30. Till then the committee will manage the administration of the association's office activities. At the general body meeting held after the formation of the adhoc committee, Mr. Appachan called upon distributors to work united. — Staff Reporter

Traffic curbs

KOCHI: Traffic will be diverted on the Edappally Bazaar-Aarkkakadavu Road near the Vennala Cooperative Bank from Saturday owing to work on a culvert. No vehicles will ply on this road for a week, according to the Assistant Executive Engineer, Public Works Department. Vehicles going towards Thripunithura from Alinchuvadu will go through Soumya Nagar Road in Alinchuvadu and reach Vennala. Vehicles coming from Thripunithura will go via Puthiya Road, Thaikavu, Vennala. — Staff Reporter
