THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kattakkada police have arrested two DYFI activists in connection with the murder of Ajith, 28, who was hacked to death by an armed gang at Malayinkeezhu on May 24 evening. The Circle Inspector, S. Sivaprasad, identified the accused as Umesh alias Sivaprasad and Biju alias Pradesh Kumar. The official said certain DYFI activists in the locality had teamed up with professional hit-men from the city to kill Ajith. The assailants, who were lurking in the darkness, inflicted the first cut when Ajith came out of a wayside eatery. The youth tried to flee, but the assailants followed him on motorbikes and hacked him when he collapsed at Andoorkonam junction. The post-mortem examination revealed 24 deep cuts on Ajith's body. The police said that Ajith had recently issued death threats against one Sajukumar of Malayinkeezhu and a city-based gang leader suspected to have close links with the CPI(M). The death threat against the gang leader was suspected to be the motive for the murder. Ajith had shifted his allegiance from the CPI(M) to the Congress(I) before he joined the Shiva Sena. He was arrested in October last year on the charge of attacking DYFI activists.
