Mass copying, notices sent: The university has sent notices to 157 B.Tech. students of the Mary Matha Engineering College, Paliode, who have been accused of indulging in mass-copying during the examinations held some months ago. They have been given one week to reply in writing why action should not be taken against them. The students should submit an inquiry fee of Rs.500 along with the reply. The students can give their explanation in person between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on June 3 and 4 at the special hearing organised by the university.

Academic council decisions: The Academic Council that met today decided to recognise the Kerala Sahitya Akademi as a centre of research for Malayalam. The restructured B.Sc course in optical instrumentation will be considered equivalent to the B.Sc physics course. The council also granted recognition to the BA English (psychology, sociology triple main) course of the Bangalore University, the PG Diploma in Information Technology of the IIITM-K, the BliSc course of the MG University and to the distance education BA history programme of the Manonmaniyam Sundarnar University. It was also decided to recognise the M.Phil family and community science (regular) programme of the Avinashlingam Institute of Home Science, Coimbatore. The next meeting will discuss revising the list of academic journals of different subjects.
