Tree fall disrupts traffic in Basavanagudi

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: A huge tree fell on a car on B.P. Wadia Road in Basavanagudi as rains lashed the city again on Thursday evening. However, no one was injured.

Traffic on the road was disrupted for over an hour as BMP (Bangalore Mahanagara Palike) gangmen and the Fire Force personnel removed the tree. Power supply was disrupted in the area for some time.

Several trees were uprooted in different parts of the city. The BMP control rooms received reports of tree falls from 14th Cross, 34th Main, in J.P. Nagar 1st Phase; East End Road near R.V. Teachers' College; Jayanagar 30th Cross, C Main; Banashankari; Indiranagar Defence Colony; and St. John's Road. The trees were removed.

In Banashankari, near the Madduramma Temple, a six-year-old boy who was riding a cycle was injured when he came in contact with an electric wire. He was shifted to the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences.

Over 200 trees have fallen in the city in rain in the past few days.

Several electricity poles have collapsed in many areas disrupting power supply.
