NEW DELHI: The former Station House Officer (SHO) of the Lajpat Nagar police station, who was summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with a case in which a Sub-Inspector working under him was allegedly caught taking a bribe of Rs. 30,000 from a complainant on Tuesday, did not show up for duty on Thursday as well. The CBI had received a complaint from a person alleging that Sub-Inspector, Puninder Singh, of Lajpat Nagar police station was demanding Rs. 50,000 to help him secure regular bail in a cheating case. Subsequently, it laid a trap and arrested Puninder while he was receiving a part of the money. During interrogation, Puninder allegedly disclosed that his area SHO, V.K. Malhotra, was also supposed to get his share of the amount. The CBI officials then raided his residence but did not find him there. However, they recovered some incriminating documents from there. It is learnt that the CBI sent a notice to V.K. Malhotra to appear for "assistance" in probing the case, but he did not turn up. Meanwhile, the Amar Colony police-post in-charge, Sunil Mittal, who was the investigating officer of the case, was relieved from the position on Wednesday. Also, V.K. Malhotra has been transferred to Special Branch.
