NEW DELHI: An alleged drug courier carrying a consignment of 7.5 kg of heroin was arrested at Chanakyapuri by the Narcotics Branch of the Delhi police on Wednesday. The accused had brought the stuff from Rajasthan. According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, D.L. Kashyap, the Department received a tip-off that a drug peddler, on the direction of a big time drug dealer, would come from Rajasthan to deliver a consignment. Subsequently, a police team laid a trap near a bus shelter at Chanakyapuri where the suspect arrived around 4 p.m. He was rounded up and a jute bag recovered from him. The police found three packets containing heroin hidden in the bag. During interrogation, the accused identified himself as Raju (30), a resident of Chittorgarh. He allegedly disclosed that he used to work as a courier for three major drug cartels operating from Rajasthan. He mainly trafficked drugs to Kolkata at their instance. Mr. Kashyap said this time the accused had brought the consignment to the Capital for a drug dealer whose name figures in the top 10 accused under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. A fresh hunt has been launched for him.
