Power, water crisis continues in Delhi

Staff Reporter

The level at Wazirabad barrage remains about two feet below normal

The areas that remained badly affected included South, East, North-East and Outer Delhi

NEW DELHI: The Capital continued to be in the grip of a severe power and water crisis on Thursday with large parts of city experiencing unscheduled power-cuts and facing an acute shortage of water. The areas that remained badly affected included South, East, North-East and Outer Delhi localities. While shortage of power to the Northern Grid affected supply to the Capital, the water level at crucial Wazirabad barrage on the Yamuna remained about two feet below normal.

On Thursday, Transco resorted to a load-shedding of 185 MW even as the peak demand touched 3,093 MW during the day. Low frequency in the Northern Grid and violation of "grid indiscipline" by the neighbouring States was said to be the main reason for the unscheduled power-cuts. At least three generating units in Uttar Pradesh remained shut for the second consecutive day leading to a shortfall of around 600 MW to the Grid.

Similarly, the level of the Yamuna remained at 672.8 feet, against the mandatory level of 672.8 feet. Though the functioning of water treatment plants remained normal, still there were several areas, particularly in South, Outer, North and East Delhi, that remained badly hit due to poor supply.

Repair work

Meanwhile, DJB has informed that due to a major pipeline repair work on Tank Road in Karol Bagh area, supply would remain affected at Ragerpura, Devnagar, Bapa Nagar, Mata Rameshwari, Nehru Nagar and its adjoining areas on Friday evening. In case of an emergency, residents can get water tankers by dialling 25860438 and 25860514.

Similarly, the private power company - BSES - has informed that due to maintenance work, supply will remain affected at Seelampur, Matiala, Daryaganj, Patel Nagar, Shankar Road, Seelampur, Shanti Vihar, Ganga Vihar, Durga Vihar and Brij Vihar areas on Friday.
