Demolition drive criticised

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Welfare Association of Traders & Manufacturers of Shivaji Marg has criticised the Delhi Government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi for showing "undue haste'' in carrying out a demolition drive to acquire land for constructing of a flyover at Moti Nagar in West Delhi.

In a letter to the Delhi Government, and forwarded to the Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, the Association has alleged that the administration has failed to give the affected people even 48-hours to vacate their land, which was in gross violations of laid norms.

It has also stated that the affected people were not even informed about the compensation to be paid to them, while they have not been handed over the valuation reports of the properties to be evicted.

Stating that they did not want to take the matter to court as it could lead to delay in completion of the project, the Association has asked the administration to discuss their problems and sign a proper agreement with the affected people so that the matter could be resolved amicably.
