Plea for apparel park will be considered: Vaghela

Staff Reporter

2 mills handed over to Government

PONDICHERRY: Union Textiles Minister Shankersinh Vaghela has said the Pondicherry Government's request for an apparel park will be considered.

At a meeting on the premises of the Swadeshi Cotton Mills here on Friday, he handed over to Chief Minister N Rangasamy the documents on the transfer of ownership of the Swadeshi and Bharathi Mills from the National Textiles Corporation to the Pondicherry Government.

Besides the AFT Mills, the Pondicherry Textiles Corporation (PTC) will run these two mills.

Mr. Vaghela said the Government and the workers should strive to make the mills, hallmarks of Pondicherry, competitive and profitable.

He said the Centre planned to integrate the Textiles Centre Infrastructure Development Scheme and the Textile Upgradation Fund to make the textile more viable.

Mr. Rangasamy said his Government would never allow an industrial unit to close down.

Pattali Makkal Katchi parliamentary party leader M Ramadass said the administration should bring all spinning mills and cooperative undertakings such as the PONTEX and the PONFAB under the PTC.
