State receives good

pre-monsoon rain

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State received widespread pre-monsoon showers since Thursday morning even as the South West monsoon set in over the South Andaman sea and conditions are favourable for its advance over the south Bay of Bengal. The Met authorities here said the rain was precipitated by a trough of low pressure along the Kerala-Karnataka coast. The current rain had nothing to do with the monsoon, which was expected to set in over Kerala around June 7. However, the ongoing rainfall activity over the south peninsula was likely to increase. Seven to eight stations in the State received heavy rain during the 24 hours which ended at 8.30 a.m. on Friday. While Cherthala and Mankombu received 11 cm of rain, Kumarakom 10 cm and Thiruvalla, seven cm. Thiruvananthapuram city received 3.25 cm and the Airport 3.3 cm of rain till 5.50 p.m. today. — Special Correspondent
