CHENNAI: : Thirtyeight persons figure as accused in the charge sheet in the alleged flyover scam during the DMK rule. It was submitted to the court of the VI Additional Sessions Judge here on Thursday. Besides 14 persons cited in the First Information Report, 24 others, including several Chennai Corporation officials, have been arraigned as accused. Among those who figure in the final report are former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, his son and former Mayor M.K.Stalin, former Ministers Ko.Si. Mani and K.Ponmudi and two former Chief Secretaries, a senior police officer said. Sources say that because the FIR, registered by the CB-CID, was sent to the court of the Principal Sessions Judge, the charge sheet would also go to the same court. But the court of the Principal Judge was closed for summer vacation; hence, it was sent to the court of the in-charge judge. The investigating agency had sent a list of 15 Executive Engineers, Assistant Executive Engineers and Assistant Engineers of the Chennai Corporation against whom criminal proceedings were recommended. Another person, who served as an Executive Engineer, had retired, and he was also charged under various provisions. The allegation is that the accused conspired and abetted one another in the commission of certain illegal acts in respect of works on preparing project reports and designing and constructing nine flyovers at the intersections of Peters Road-Conran Smith Road, Peters Road-Westcott Road, Pantheon Road-Casa Major Road and Montieth Road, Radhakrishnan Salai-Music Academy, Radhakrishnan Salai-Royapettah High Road, Purasawalkam High Road-Perambur Barracks Road, Sardar Patel Road-Gandhi Mandapam Road, Sardar Patel Road-Lattice Bridge Road and TTK Salai-C.P.Ramaswamy Road.
