THRISSUR: The Speaker, Therambil Ramakrishnan, will declare on Sunday the Velappaya grama panchayat as the second blood-literate village in the country. The project was launched by the Thrissur West Rotary Club, Jubilee Mission Medical College and the Avanur grama panchayat in October 2004. A team of about 100 medical students, 40 technicians, panchayat officials and doctors had conducted awareness programmes on blood donation in the village. Blood tests and surveys were conducted, according to Giji George, president, Thrissur West Rotary Club. Members of each house have been given cards specifying their blood groups.
