ALAPPUZHA: The Alappuzha MP, K. S. Manoj, will inaugurate the annual training camp of the National Cadet Corps for cadets from Alappuzha, Kollam and Ernakulam districts at Cherthala SN College on May 29 at 10 a.m., the commandant of the camp Lt. Col. K. Sreekumar, said. Around 600 cadets will participate in the camp which will end on June 6, said Mr. Sreekumar. The camp will feature mass drills, weapon training sessions, races, adventure programmes and arts and sports competitions, pointed out Mr. Sreekumar.
Awareness programmes
Various awareness programmes will also be organised as a part of the camp, said Mr. Sreekumar. The Alappuzha District Superintendent of Police, Varghese George, will inaugurate the programme at 10 a.m. on May 30. Following this, C. K. Rajan, Professor, Cochin University of Science and Technology and K. Santosh, secretary, Scientific Awareness Forum, Ernakulam, will take classes on `Natural calamities and safeguards. The Principal of Porukara College of Education, Champakkulam, will take classes on the subject `The social commitment of NCC cadets,' on May 31 at 10 a.m. An awareness programme on AIDS would be held in the afternoon.
Leadership camp
A leadership training programme would be held on June 1. The SNDP Yogam general secretary, Vellappally Natesan, will be the chief guest. The World Ecological day would be observed at the camp on June 5. The valedictory session of the camp will be held at 6 p.m. on the day. The judge of the Kerala High Court Justice K. Thankappan will inaugurate the valedictory meeting. The awards to the best cadets at the camp would be distributed at the function.
