TIME FOR THEATRE: The Endowments Minister, M. Satyanarayana Rao, lighting the lamp to inaugurate the drama festival in Tirupati on Friday.
TIRUPATI: The golden jubilee national drama festival was inaugurated at the Mahati auditorium here on Friday, with the Endowments Minister, M. Satyanarayana Rao, formally lighting the traditional lamp. The event is being conducted by the Tirupati-based Sri Venkateswara Natyakala Parishat for the 50th consecutive year in association with the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). Speaking on the occasion, the Minister stressed the need to preserve and perpetuate the native art forms, music and literature. Mr. Rao also directed the TTD Executive Officer, A.P.V. Narayana Sharma, to help the parishat in holding the drama festival every year to keep theatre art alive. The Chairman of Cultural Council and actor, Dharmavarapu Subrahmanyam, the MLA, M. Venkataramana, the TUDA Chairman, B. Karunakar Reddy, the TTD board member, S. Ganesh Reddy, and senior theatre artiste, Burra Subrahmanya Sastry, were present.
