MANGALORE: The Sullia Taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat will hold a Jana Sahitya Sammelan on Sunday at Sullia for the common man under the presidentship of K.R. Vidyadhara Baddadka. Terming it a new beginning in Navasakshara Sahitya, the president of the Sullia Taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat, A.K. Himakara, said that too much Brahminism in mainstream Kannada literature has made it an alien subject for the common man, particularly the marginalised classes such as tribal people, Dalits, lower income groups, farmers and labourers. They are being sidelined in the era of globalisation, including from the field of education, and in socio-economic matters. By giving them a literary platform of their own they could be brought into the mainstream, Mr. Himakara said. Despite being kept out of the educational field by the upper castes, the hunger for sahitya among the marginalised sections could not be vanquished. Many Dalit and tribal writers have been craving for a platform. The `Jana Sahitya Sammelan' will provide that platform, he said. He recalled that one such sammelan was held some time back under the leadership of Kunhiakka Guthigaru in Sullia. Writers and poets from among the tribal and Dalit communities had presented papers. Experts who will take part in the deliberations include P.L. Dharma and Abhayakumar of Mangalore University, Abdulssalam Puthige, Gurappa Hassan, Raviraja Anchan, Tukaram Poojary, Madhava Peraje, Chandra Poojary, Tambad Vijaya, Bommanna Gowda and Vadil Hussain.
