Attempt to kidnap live band artistes

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: An armed gang waylaid a multiutility vehicle in which seven live band artistes were travelling and attempted to kidnap them in the early hours of Friday.

The incident occurred around 1.30 a.m. on Thindlu Road, off the Kodigehalli railway gate, in Vidyaranyapura police station limits.

Police said the seven women working in a live band joint on Residency Road were returning to their house in Dhanalakshmi Layout in Vidyaranyapura.

Five youths who reportedly came in an autorickshaw allegedly waylaid the vehicle and attacked the driver, Krishna, with a machete.

After dragging him out, two youths got into the vehicle and tried to start it.

The live band artistes and their two male colleagues, who were also in the vehicle, opened the doors and jumped out of the vehicle.

As the artistes and their colleagues raised an alarm, the residents of the area came out. On seeing the public, the youths ran away, the police said.

The Vidyaranyapura police have seized the autorickshaw and registered a case.

Vehicle taken away

Two youths allegedly attacked the driver of a multiutility vehicle attached to a call centre and drove away the vehicle in Jalahalli police station limits in the early hours of Friday.

Police said the incident took place around 1 a.m. near Nagaland Circle on New BEL Road when the driver, Venkatesh, was on his way to pick the employees of HP Call Centre. When Venkatesh slowed the vehicle on approaching a road hump, a youth reportedly fell in front of the vehicle. His accomplice threatened Venkatesh with a knife and pulled him out of the vehicle. Later, the two got into the vehicle and sped away, the police said.
