Sacked NCW members come out in the open
Staff Correspondent
NEW DELHI:
Three former members of the National Commission for Women (NCW), who were removed from their posts on May 20, have described the move as ``unconstitutional, condemnable and a major blow to the women's movement in the country.''
Talking to reporters here on Saturday, the three Nirmala Seetharaman, Anusuiya Uike and Nafisa Hussain said the decision of the Human Resource Development Ministry did not augur well for the country, particularly for women. `
`The Government appears to have been `ill-advised' over the issue and we hope that it reverses its decision,'' Ms. Seetharaman said.
Ms. Uike had filed a petition against her removal in the Delhi High Court that will come up for hearing on Monday.
