Sacked NCW members come out in the open

Staff Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Three former members of the National Commission for Women (NCW), who were removed from their posts on May 20, have described the move as ``unconstitutional, condemnable and a major blow to the women's movement in the country.''

Talking to reporters here on Saturday, the three — Nirmala Seetharaman, Anusuiya Uike and Nafisa Hussain — said the decision of the Human Resource Development Ministry did not augur well for the country, particularly for women. `

`The Government appears to have been `ill-advised' over the issue and we hope that it reverses its decision,'' Ms. Seetharaman said.

Ms. Uike had filed a petition against her removal in the Delhi High Court that will come up for hearing on Monday.
