Choi hangs on to lead

SEOUL: Amandeep Johl recovered from an early lapse with a card of two-under 70 to move into the tied fifth position and give himself an outside chance of winning the $500,000 Maekyung Open golf at the Nam Seoul Country Club.

Johl's 70 took his total to three-under 213 as Korea's Choi Sang-Ho leads the field eight-under 208.

India's other entry in the event, Shiv Kapur managed only a five-over 77 after a five-over 41 on the back nine. Kapur at 10-over 226 is tied 65th. Kapur had two birdies, five bogeys and one double bogey in his card.

Johl and Kim Hyung Tae of Korea are tied for fifth. They are five behind the leader.

Johl opened with a birdie on first, but two bogeys on next two holes set him back. Johl fought back to birdie the eighth and ninth and turned in one-under. Then another birdie on 16th gave him a two-under card and tied fifth place.

If Choi holds off his challengers, he will take over the mantle as the oldest winner in Asia.
