``No pressure from Left ''

Staff Reporter

KARAIKUDI: The Union Government would discuss the issue of revision of petroleum prices with Left parties next week, Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said here on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters, he said petroleum price revision was a complex issue and it would take time. "They [Left parties] had certain ideas; so we had to discuss the issue with them."

Mr. Chidambaram denied that the Left parties were pressuring the Government. They were expressing their views on important issues. ``We have evolved a Common Minimum Programme. We have never deviated from it. We will not do so. But at the same time, there are some issues, which are beyond the ambit of CMP. The Government always listens to their [Left] views,'' he said.
