VIJAYAWADA: The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) convenor and former Defence Minister, George Fernandes, on Saturday dismissed claims of some political parties that development was not possible with smaller States. In an informal chat with reporters, Mr. Feranandes, referring to the Telangana issue, said smaller States had every opportunity of developing on a par with the bigger and cited in this connection the strides made by States such as Delhi and Goa. He, however, said he formation of separate Telangana was possible only if a majority of people wanted it. Mr. Fernandes demanded that the Election Commission of India take steps to conduct elections to the Bihar Assembly before the end of July. He faulted the Bihar Governor, Buta Singh, for not considering the letters of support furnished by the Janata Dal (United) leader, Nitish Kumar, before recommending the dissolution of the House. He criticised the Bihar Governor for hastily forwarding the report recommending the imposition of President's Rule.
