TDP activist succumbs

to injuries

TIRUPATI: A Telugu Desam Party (TDP) activist and follower of the film actress, Roja, who was critically injured in a clash with Congress workers at Nagari last week, succumbed to injuries here on Saturday.

It may be recalled that Ms. Roja, who is looking after the party affairs in the Nagari constituency, had on Tuesday created a flutter at SVRR Hospital for what she called premature discharge of K. Desi Reddy (50) by the neurosurgeon allegedly under pressure from the Nagari Congress MLA, R. Chenga Reddy. She relented only after the hospital Superintendent re-admitted the patient. - Staff Reporter

Air chief worships

at Tirumala

TIRUMALA: The chief of Air Staff, S.P. Thyagi, accompanied by his wife, Vandana Thyagi, on Saturday offered prayers in the hill temple of Lord Venkateswara.

On his arrival at the Padmavati guest house, he was accorded a warm reception by the TTD Joint Executive Officer, Muktheswar Rao, and the Deputy Executive Officer, Chengalrayulu. Soon after the worship, Mr. Thyagi motored down to Tirupati. - Staff Reporter

counselling

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad regional centre of Indira Gandhi National Open University will organise a one-hour phone-in radio counselling between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. on May 29. The coordinators of IGNOU will interact with audience about various academic courses. The programme will be relayed on all AIR stations. Ryot's charge

ELURU: A farmer from Dendulur caused a flutter at a rytu saddassu at Venkataramannagudem in West Godavari district on Saturday by complaining that spraying of pesticide in his fields led to the death of a farm worker instead of pests. He bemoaned that he had to pay compensation to the kin of the deceased.

A scientist, however, blamed it on the farmer by saying that the latter might have not followed the scientists' prescription properly while using the pesticide. - Staff Reporter

No invitation to

rythu sadassu: MP

Rajahmundry: Two MPs out of three from East Godavari district were not officially invited by the agriculture officials to the rythu sadassu organised here on Saturday. It was attended by the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

G.V. Harsha Kumar, MP from Amalapuram, said that there is no official communication from any of the officer in the district about the rythu sadassu to him and also to the Kakinada MP, Pallam Raju. He asked the administration not to repeat the same in future. - Staff Reporter

Village servants'

meet on June 12

HYDERABAD: A State-level conference of the office-bearers of Andhra Pradesh Village Servants Association, affiliated to CPI (M), will be held at Ambedkar Bhavan here on June 12 to discuss, among others, the rejection of the demand to recognise village servants as Class IV employees of the State Government.

The conference will chalk out the future course of action on the issue, the association State general secretary, N. Laxminarayana, and the advisor, G. Ramulu, told reporters here on Saturday. - Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The National Mineral Development Corporation Limited has been given an award for excellent performance in 2003-04 by the Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering, Navi, Mumbai.
