NEW DELHI: The Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, on Saturday hailed the re-election of Sonia Gandhi as the president of the Indian National Congress for the third time in succession. Speaking at a function here, Mr. Hooda said: "The election of Ms. Gandhi is in itself a historic one. She had set a historic example by not accepting the high office of the Prime Minister of the country last year. She has been following the path shown by great leaders like Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi." The function was organised by the All-India Freedom Fighters' Organisation to felicitate Mr. Hooda on his election as Chief Minister of the State. Recalling the role played by Haryana in the country's freedom movement, Mr. Hooda said even in the post-Independence era many people from the State had sacrificed their lives while defending the frontiers of the country and upholding its sovereignty.
