He is survived by two sons and three daughters. Mr. Vyas had a distinguished career as an Assistant Editor in "Dainik Hindustan" for more than three decades and wrote the longest running column "Naradjee Khabar Lai Hain'' in the daily for the past 45 years. It seemed he had a premonition of his death as in the latest issue of his column that appeared on Saturday morning he announced his decision to stop writing owing to his illness. Another column of his, "Yatra Tatra Sarvatra'', also held its ground for 30 years in Dainik Hindustan. The cremation at Nigambodh Ghat later in the day was attended by a large number of his admirers, writers, journalists and friends.
Life term for rape
Observing that the convict had ``committed a grave offence on an innocent girl'' Additional Sessions Judge Rajnish Bhatnagar awarded the maximum punishment provided in the law for the crime to Santosh Kumar. The minor girl, who was alone at her house on February 21, 2002 as her parents were away for work at a factory, was playing in her house when the convict living in her neighbourhood lured her into his house by giving a five rupee note and raped her. When her father came back from the factory and enquired about the blood on her dresses, she told him that she had fallen down while playing, following which he rushed her to the hospital. On reaching there, the girl told the doctor that she had been raped by the convict who had threatened her not to reveal the incident to anyone.
Cops hurt in scuffle
According to the police, they received a call around 11-15 a.m. informing them about a fight between two families over a property dispute at Hauz Qazi. The area post in-charge, Sub-Inspector Sanjeev, and his subordinates reached the spot to mediate. However, one of the parties allegedly roughed up the policemen, in which Sanjeev and a constable, Anup, sustained injuries. They were taken to hospital for first-aid. A case has been registered and further investigations are on. The police said the property dispute case was pending with the court.
Burglars nabbed
Acting on a tip-off that some criminals had gathered in the park, the police laid a trap and arrested them. They were identified as Dinesh, Bhushan Lal and Kishore. During interrogation, they allegedly confessed to their involvement in at least 47 cases.
Arrested
The police said they had received a tip-off that some sex workers were soliciting customers at Pitampura. Subsequently, they were arrested.
