Ismail Merchant buried near his mother's tomb

MUMBAI: The body of the filmmaker, Ismail Merchant, was laid to rest on Saturday at Bada Kabarasthan in South Mumbai in the presence of his family members and friends from Bollywood. A small prayer was also held at the Kabarasthan mosque before the burial.

The Bombay-born Merchant, who died in London on Wednesday, was buried near his mother's tomb as per his wish. Merchant's close friend, Shashi Kapoor, was among those present. Earlier, Merchant's body was flown in from London by an Air-India cargo flight and kept at his brother's house in Mumbai Central for people to pay respects.

Earlier, actress Shabana Azmi and Mr. Kapoor were present at the Mumbai airport to receive the body. — PTI
