Setback to Geelani faction

SRINAGAR: The hardline Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani suffered a setback ahead of a crucial meeting of its advisory council to decide on the invitation to visit Pakistan.

The Jammu and Kashmir People's League, one of its constituents, said it would abstain from the meeting on Sunday following the continued detention of its leader. JKPL has decided to "remain away" from the meeting and ``not to join'' the proposed visit to Pakistan next month. ``The main reason for boycotting the meet was to protest against the Hurriyat's inaction following the arrest of JKPL chairman Sheikh Abdul Aziz,'' a JKPL spokesman said. — PTI
