Letters to the Editor
This refers to the former U.S. President, Bill Clinton's visit to the tsunami-hit areas of Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu. It is heartening to note that the exemplary service rendered by the district administrative machinery headed by Collector J. Radhakrishnan has received international acclaim and recognition. By serving the tsunami-affected people with total commitment, honesty and sincerity, they have set an example for fellow civil servants.
S. Ramalingam,
Tamil Nadu and, in fact, all of India should be proud of the stupendous work done by Mr. Radhakrishnan and his team in handling such a severe crisis. The Collector has come in for praise from many quarters, including from the NGOs involved in tsunami relief. He is an inspiration for many aspiring bureaucrats.
Kailash Swaminathan,
Mr. Clinton's visit as special U.N. envoy to Nagapattinam was more significant than his visit to India as U.S. President. The way he reached out to the affected people, particularly children, was not only reflective of his love for humanity but also of his commitment to his mission. Going by what he has been actually doing on the ground, in keeping with his newly donned role, he will be best remembered as a good humanist rather than as a former President of the United States.
M. Jeyaram,
