The article "A chance for peace in Darfur" by Kofi Annan and Alpha Oumar Konare (May 27) is a genuine attempt to draw the attention of the international community to the relentless suffering of the people of the disturbed western province of Sudan. While peace making and peace-keeping are diplomatic and military interventions in troubled regions, peace building is a much more comprehensive remedy requiring a multi-pronged strategy aimed at eradicating the root cause of the malaise.
