Letters to the Editor
This refers to recent reports about the dwindling tiger population in reserves such as Sariska, Panna, and Ranthambore. It is indeed disheartening to note that poaching is not concentrated in one region, but in tiger reserves all over the country. This speaks to the indifference of the Centre and the State Governments. The Ministry of Environment and Forests is weighed down by mega development projects in forestlands, which rob the tiger of its forest territory. While there is no quick-fix method to save the tiger, any effort at conservation should necessarily incorporate the participation of local communities and tribals who inhabit the dense forests.
