HUBLI: The All Karnataka Book Sellers' Association, Hubli, has alleged that publishers of textbooks are trying to exploit booksellers and are acting against the government order. Addressing presspersons here, Raju Salimath, vice-president of the association, said although the publishers are supposed to give 17 per cent commission to booksellers, according to the Government Order, they are ready to pay only play 10 per cent. He said that only two to three textbooks of English medium are available and it is the same case with Marathi and Urdu medium books. "Moreover they are asking us to give money in advance which has been hitherto unheard. We want the government to clarify in this regard," Mr. Salimath said. Mr. Shivanna Hangaraki, secretary, said that the association will wait for a fortnight for the government to set the things right and arrange for the supply of textbooks A.K. Kulkarni, president of the association, and Vasanth Akalawadi urged the Government to exclude notebooks and stationery from VAT.
