JCOs recruitment

NELLORE: Recruitment for Junior Commissioned Officers (religious teachers) will be held at the Branch Recruitment Office, Secunderabad, from August 1 to 7. Men in the age group of 27 to 34 years with graduation, besides having a religious qualification are eligible to apply.

Expert team studies weavers' deaths

Sangareddy: A team of experts in the field of handlooms visited the Dubbaka mandal in Medak on Sunday and demanded the Government to establish handloom parks in place of textile parks and also to create Dubbaka as a cluster centre for all mandals in the district. The Telanagana Rajaka vedika president, Nadini Sidda Reddy, the Chirala Cheneta vignana vidhana kendram coordinator, D. Narsimha Reddy, Dr. G. Gangi Reddy from the NIRD and Dommata legislator S. Ramalinga Reddy visited six weaver families out of the 53 weavers who allegedly committed suicide in the Dubbaka mandal. - Staff Reporter

NFFW review meet

ADILABAD: The Adilabad district Collector, R. Subba Rao, on Sunday asked officials to complete the works taken under the National food for work (NFFW) programme before the onset of monsoon.

At a review meeting with special officers, engineering officials and Mandal Parishad Development Officers on the NFFW progress, the Collector asked them to review the works with regard to the maintenance of muster rolls and supply of rice. - Staff Reporter

KU ICET-2005 ends peacefully

WARANGAL: The ICET-2005 examination conducted by the Kakatiya University (KU) went of peacefully without any untoward incident.

The results would be announced within 15 days, said the university's Vice Chancellor, V. Gopal Reddy. In a statement issued here on Sunday, Prof. Reddy said that of the total 86,430 candidates registered for the examination, five per cent of them did not attend the test. Staff Reporter

TRS MLA decries

TDP remarks

HYDERABAD: The TRS has lashed out at the former TDP minister, E. Peddi Reddy, for his `intemperate remarks' against the party at the Mahanadu.

The TRS MLA, E. Rajender, told reporters here on Sunday that the ongoing Mahanadu was confined to hurling accusations at rival parties, particularly the TRS.

The occasion was not at all used to review the reasons for the debacle of the TDP.

He warned TDP leaders that they would lose credibility if they were to lock horns with the TRS.

Payment of salary

dues demanded

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh State Teachers' Union has demanded payment of salary dues to Panchayat Raj teachers.

P. Subba Reddy, president, and A. Anantaramulu, general secretary of the union, said in a statement on Sunday that teachers were facing hardship on account of non-payment of dues.

They also wanted the Government to pay salaries to the non-teaching staff working in mandal and zilla parishad schools. - Staff Reporter

AISF warns

Government

ONGOLE: All-India Students' Federation has warned the State Government of facing the wrath of students if it cancelled the bus pass facility.

In a statement on Sunday, the state general secretary of the federation, N. Raja Reddy, said the Government was planning to withdraw the bus pass facility for students from the coming academic year to reduce losses of the RTC.

They reminded that the TDP Government had incurred the ire of students by increasing the bus fare in a drought year. - Staff Reporter

Courier of Maoist

leader held

NALGONDA: The Nalgonda district police arrested Bandi Venkateswarlu alias Deepak alias Deepu, the alleged courier of the CPI (Maoist) State committee member, Sakhamuri Appa Rao, in the intervening night of May 28 and 29.

According to a press release issued by the Superintendent of Police, M.M. Bhagwat, the courier was arrested at Chityala. The courier told the police that Varavara Rao, Gadar and Kalayana Rao were settling civil disputes, the SP said. - Staff Reporter

Nine hurt in clash

NELLORE: Nine persons, two of them seriously, were injured in a clash between two groups in Annamedu village of Naiduept mandal on Saturday. According to reports, the clash was a sequel to a row over a filter point in a colony. The seriously injured were taken to Tirupati for treatment. - Staff Reporter

Fingerlings supply

HYDERABAD: The Fisheries Commissioner, C. Ailaiah, has said that murrel fingerlings will be supplied by the department on June 8 and 9 to patients of asthama for taking the fish medicine provided by Bathini brothers.

He said in a press release on Sunday that the fingerlings would be made available by the Government at the Exhibition Grounds, Nampally, on the Mrugasira Karthi day. - Staff Reporter

Huge liquor haul

ANANTAPUR: Over 11,000 sachets of illicit liquor smuggled from Karnataka were found concealed in an orchard belonging to a TDP sympathiser, Venkatappa, at Doragattakottala in Roddam mandal on Sunday.

The special party police who were conducting combing operations for Maoists found the contraband packed in 25 polythene bags in the orchard.

The orchard owner, however, expressed innocence about the liquor stating that he had no idea about it. - Staff Reporter
