RTC MD's appeal to unions
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD:
The Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of the State-owned Road Transport Corporation, M.V. Krishna Rao, on Sunday appealed to the different trade unions and the staff asking them to desist from going on strike keeping in mind the larger interests of both the corporation and the travelling public.
It may be recalled that on May 27, the Joint Action Committee of Trade Unions had served notice to the RTC management seeking redressal of their long-pending grievances, handing over a memorandum with a 17-point charter of demands.
Without stipulating a date, the unions said that the strike could be anytime after the passage of two weeks if their demands were not conceded.
In his appeal, Mr. Krishna Rao said that even before the strike notice had been served, the State Government had given it serious thought at the highest level and while reducing the motor vehicle tax by about half the existing rate, promised full reimbursement of concessions and firm steps to curb illicit operations by private operators.
He said the Government had even given the corporation a free hand in recruitment and procurement of new buses and the like.
