Pleased by finance management, the Centre has given Rs. 260 crores: Gaur

BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Babulal Gaur, on Sunday congratulated Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, headed by the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, for praising the efforts of Madhya Pradesh in various spheres, including development and fiscal management.

Mr. Gaur was addressing newspersons at his residence here after returning from the short tour of Singapore and Malaysia. He said that the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation has concluded in one of its latest contemporary studies that Madhya Pradesh is the Second Best State after Tamil Nadu when it comes to the protection of the right to property. Madhya Pradesh is also ahead of Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Haryana, Rajasthan and many other States on the tax recovery and institutional expenditure front, he said.

Citing further from the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation report, he went on to emphasise that Madhya Pradesh has scored over States like West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka besides many other States in the patent field and economic index.

Mr. Gaur said that the Government of India has also given a bonus of Rs. 260 crores to the State as it has been pleased with the way the State's finances were being managed. He reiterated his commitment for development and said that all should rise above political lines and work for development.

While pointing out that the Union Ministers, Arjun Singh, Mani Shankar Aiyar and Kamal Nath have been praising the development related initiatives being taken in the State, Mr. Gaur said in the same breath that the Union Minister of State for Home, Sri Prakash Jaiswal and Union Tourism Minister, Renuka Chaudhary have unnecessarily criticised the Madhya Pradesh Government on one or the other pretext. This was leaving an adverse impact on the `feel good factor', he said adding that he would be lodging a complaint with the Prime Minister in this regard.

Briefing about his just concluded Singapore and Malaysia tour, the Chief Minister said that many industries have evinced keen interest in investing in Madhya Pradesh. He said that many Malaysian companies working in housing, road and power sectors have been invited to set up joint ventures in the State.

Representatives from 100 different organisations also participated in a seminar on `possibilities of investment in Madhya Pradesh' in Singapore, he said adding that the industrialists from Singapore have expressed their desire to invest in areas like hydel and thermal power, tourism and agro processing.
