Moral education camp

NEW DELHI: To inculcate ethics, vegetarianism and cultural values among children, a week-long moral education camp organised at Jain Girls Senior Secondary School in Dharampura concluded here on Sunday. The camp was jointly organised by the Jain Paath Samiti and the Digamber Jain Naitik Siksha Samiti.

On the concluding day, a rally was taken out by children and their parents in support of the cause. At the camp, several teachers were honoured and meritorious students were given prizes. Books and stationery were also distributed free at the camp.

Cancer helpline

NEW DELHI: The Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) has given two toll free telephone connections to the Indian Cancer Society (ICS) for use as a helpline. The Society has expressed the hope that it would enable cancer patients and their relatives to seek any information free of cost.

The helpline -- 24311010 -- is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., while the mobile number, 9868216588, would be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Both telephones would be manned by trained ICS volunteers.

Seminar

NEW DELHI: The Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya organised a day-long seminar on spiritual wisdom for a value-based society at Om Shanti Retreat Centre near Delhi on Sunday.

In his inaugural address, the former Union Minister for Tourism and Culture, Jagmohan, observed that rekindling of the Indian mind was needed through spiritual empowerment of the people. Mere reforms in the Constitution, administration or judiciary cannot bring true peace and development in society, he added.

The seminar was aimed at creating a positive attitude among the masses through the practice and promotion of spiritual wisdom, universal values and meditation.

Power situation improves

NEW DELHI: The power situation in the Capital improved on Sunday as the 210 MW Dadri unit started functioning normally after a fortnight. No load-shedding was done by Transco on Sunday even as the peak demand touched 2,963 MW. Additional supply from the Dadri unit also stablised the Northern Grid that was plagued by low frequency for the past several days.

Medical training programme

NEW DELHI: A five-day training programme in advances gynaecological endoscopy, laparoscopy, hysteroscopy and end-suturing techniques will be held at Jeewan Mala Hospital here beginning June 1. It is being conducted by noted gynaecologist and endo-surgeon, Malvika Sabharwal, under the aegis of the Federation of Gynaecological Society of India, Mumbai.

The workshop is being organised to impart hands-on training in latest minimal access techniques to surgeons and gynaecologists from across the country and abroad.
