Nigerian national held with cocaine

NEW DELHI: A 27-year-old Nigerian national, who was allegedly into cocaine trade, was arrested by the Narcotics Branch at Hauz Khas in South Delhi this past Thursday. The police recovered 25 gm of cocaine and some foreign currency from him.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, D.L. Kashyap, the Department received a tip-off that a Nigerian national would come to a bus shelter at Hauz Khas on Thursday evening. Subsequently, the police laid a trap and tried to arrest him. The accused offered resistance and during the scuffle, Head Constable Abdul Hakim sustained some injuries. However, he was soon overpowered.

The accused was identified as Moses, a resident of Lagos. The police recovered cocaine consignment, 1,600 Euros, Rs. 20,000 in Indian currency and 50 U.S. dollars from his possession. The police said a Nigerian national, Tony, had given him the money to buy cocaine, which was to be smuggled out to Nigeria and from there Tony had plans to smuggle the consignment to some Western country.

Efforts are on to track down Tony.
