NEW DELHI: Irate residents of South Delhi's Sadiq Nagar area on Sunday blocked road traffic for over four hours protesting against an acute water shortage in their locality for the past five days. Carrying empty buckets, a large number of residents sat on the road inside the colony around 10 a.m. The colony mainly houses government flats belonging to the Central Public Works Department. Though the protest was mostly confined to the colony road, residents briefly blocked the busy JB Tito Marg connecting Ring Road and Outer Ring Road. "For about half-an-hour the traffic movement on this main road was badly affected. Police immediately reached the spot and cleared the road. However, protest continued inside the colony," an area resident said. Angry residents shouted slogans against the CPWD and the Delhi Jal Board alleging that both the government agencies have failed to look into their demands. They claimed that the area has failed to get a single drop of water for the past five days. It was only after police assured them that they would take up the matter with authorities concerned that the angry residents relented after over four hours. When contacted, the DJB officials said the water utility had nothing to do with the crisis and the problem lay with the CPWD as its internal supply system was faulty. DJB's bulk water supply to the colony was normal and the problem was the leaking pipelines inside the colony that CPWD had failed to repair, the officials added.
