This Day That Age
Mr. V.K. Krishna Menon announced in New Delhi on May 30 that the Chinese Government had decided to release four of the 11 American airmen detained by them. He told a crowded press conference that the release, being made in response to India's request, represented a major step and "opens the door" to a solution of the problem of "nationals in restraint on either side." He believed that hereafter it would be easier for Americans to visit China and see things for themselves. "If more Americans of an enquiring mind were to see for themselves things in China, it would make towards harmony and an easing and lowering of tensions."
