dated May 31, 1955: N.M. Joshi dead

Mr. N.M. Joshi, veteran trade union leader, died in Bombay of a heart attack on May 30. He was 76. Educated at the Poona New English School and the Deccan College, he joined the Servants of India Society in 1909 and remained in the organisation till 1940. He was the General Secretary of the All-India Trade Union Congress from 1925 to 1929 and again from 1940 to 1948. He was appointed Deputy Member of the Governing Body of the ILO in 1922 and member in 1934. He was a member of the Central Legislative Assembly, to which he was nominated as a labour representative in 1921, where he invariably voted with the Opposition. He attended the Round Table Conference in 1930 and 1932.
