`Govt. has kept promise of supplying uniforms in time'

District placed first in Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan implementation

HASSAN: S.M. Anand, MLA, has said that the coalition Government has kept its promise of distributing books and uniforms to students on the first day of the new academic year.

Participating in a programme organised by Department of Public Instruction to distribute textbooks and uniforms to students here on Monday, he commended the efforts of the district administration in implementing the programme successfully.

The Deputy Commissioner, K.H. Ashwathanarayana Gowda, said that the Government is committed to extending education to all sections of society and it is up to the parents to ensure that their children attend school.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Hassan Zilla Panchayat, F.R. Jamaadar, said that the district has secured the first place in the implementation of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan programme launched by the Government and Rs. 6 crores has been spent on the scheme so far.

The Government has spent Rs. 9 crores for the Akshara Dasoha programme and 1,83,670 children from 2,504 schools have benefited from it, Mr. Anand said.

Two officials teams have been formed to oversee the progress of the programme, he added.

The Superintendent of Police, Panduranga H. Rane, and the Block Education Officer, K. Shive Gowda, participated in the function.

Unauthorised schools

The Department of Public Instruction has in a release on today said that, Cambridge Academy, Vandana Public School, HDF Convent, Aruna Convent, Golden Public School, Jnanavahini School and Ever Green schools of Bittagowdanahalli, Deve Gowda Nagara, S.M. Krishna Nagar, Devanga Road and Nirmala Nagara have not been authorised by the Government.

The Block Education Officer, K. Shive Gowda said that the department has taken steps to close these schools and appealed to parents against admitting their children to these schools.
