Deepan crowned champion

RAJAPALAYAM: J. Deepan Chakravarthy, the International Master from Madurai was crowned champion in the Chennai Jaya Colleges 53rd Tamil Nadu State Fide-rated Chess championship,conducted by Virudhunagar District Chess Association at P.A.C.R. Polytechnic, here on Monday.

Deepan collected 9.5 points out of possible 11 and bagged a cash prize of Rs.30,000. International Master V. Saravanan of Chennai finished second with 9 points and took home Rs.20,000.

Mr. N.K. Ramaswamy Raja, Correspondent, P.A.C.R. Polytechnic, presided, Mr.A.Kanagaraj, Chairman, Jaya Educational Trust, distributed the prizes.

Final placings: 1. J. Deepan Chakravarthy (MDU) 9.5 pts; 2. V. Saravanan (CHE) 9; 3. R. Preetham Sharma (S.Rly) 8.5; 4. M.Vinothkumar (CAPA) 8; 5. B.T.Murali Krishnan (S.Rly) 8; 6.
