`No need to teach English from first standard'
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE:
G. Narayan Kumar, president of the Akhila Karnataka Kannada Chaluvali Kendra, has criticised the Government's proposal to introduce English from first standard in primary schools run by it.
Addressing presspersons here on Monday, he said: "Kannada is our language. We need to learn Kannada long before we learn a foreign language. Kannada is the language that reflects our culture and heritage. People who are in favour of English seem to have forgotten the history of the language."
Reacting to the view that only English-speaking candidates get good jobs, he said many people who have studied in Kannada medium are in good positions.
Rally
The Akhila Karnataka Kannada Chaluvali Kendra will hold a rally on Mysore Bank Road on Tuesday at 11 a.m. to protest against the proposal to make wearing of helmets compulsory for two-wheeler riders.
