TUTICORIN: Collector V. Chandrasekaran said that non-refundable loans to the tune of Rs.10 lakhs would be disbursed to a total of 100 `Hindu Adi Dravidars' during the current fiscal. He told this reporter on Monday that the amount would be given from the Collector's Discretionary Fund earmarked under TAHDCO scheme. `The aim is to enhance their living standards and bring them on a par with affluent sections,' he said. Those who earn less than Rs.14,500 a year in rural areas and those who earn less than Rs.24,000 in urban areas were eligible to get the loan. Each beneficiary would receive a maximum of Rs.10,000 to establish small scale units such as tailoring unit or petty shop. While selecting beneficiaries, top priority would be given to physically challenged persons, widows and women who were residing alone after having been deserted by their husbands. Once the loan was distributed, the district administration would take measures to ensure that the money was utilised in a proper manner. We had evolved a monthly monitoring system to keep a tab on their business activities, he said.
Educational aid
The petitions would be forwarded to the Government after a scrutiny by Revenue Divisional Officers and Tahsildars so that deserved candidates could get assistance from the Chief Minister's fund, he said.
