NELLORE: The controversy over the appointment of Yellasiri Gopala Reddy, a protege of the former Chief Minister, N. Janardhana Reddy, as the District Congress Committee (DCC) president, refuses to die, following an open challenge by the Anam brothers, Anam Vivekananda Reddy and Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, MLAs. Following the end of the tenure of two terms, the earlier incumbent, C.V. Sesha Reddy, was sought to be replaced by Mr. Gopala Reddy. However, the Anam brothers started spearheading a movement even before demanding that the DCC post should be earmarked for a person belonging to minorities and Backward Classes, on the ground that they required justice and recognition for their services to the Congress. However, the appointment of Mr. Gopala Reddy was not acceptable to the Anam brothers, who took it to the highest level, including Digvijay Singh, party observer for Andhra Pradesh. This is the first time in the recent history of the Congress in the district that the appointment of DCC chief has run into rough weather. At the public meeting organised on Sunday at Podalakur in Nellore district, which was addressed by the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, in connection with the `Rythu Chaitanya Sadassu,' a section of women demanded an immediate change in the DCC appointment and submitted representations.
