GUNTUR: The Andhra Pradesh Non-Gazetted Officers' Association has threatened to launch a statewide agitation from July 31 if the Government fails to implement the recommendations of the Pay Revision Commission (PRC) after getting report on June 30. The Congress Government had already given two extensions to the PRC and was deliberately delaying the process, alleged the association secretary- general, V. Gopal Reddy, at a press conference here on Monday. He demanded that the PRC submit its report to the Government without further extensions by June 30. "The Government should implement the recommendations by July 31 or else face a mass agitation," he announced. Efforts were on to form a joint action committee of employees from various departments and regions to give a unified voice to the struggle. "The present salaries of the State Government employees are always lesser than their Central Government counterparts," he said and demanded 29 per cent hike during fitment, which if implemented would bring their salaries on a par with Central employees. The Dearness Allowance hike due from January was yet to be announced, he added. Mr. Reddy, who was on a tour of Guntur district to mobilise the cadre for the future course of action, blamed the Government's inability to reimburse the concessions given by the APSRTC as the cause for its present mess. He also sought hike in interest rates of the employees' general provident fund to 9.5 per cent, on a par with Central Government employees.
