MYSORE: Life was thrown out of gear on Monday morning due to torrential rains that lashed the city, affecting the movement of goods and people.

The downpour affected a large number of people after roads and low-lying areas were inundated. It also affected the movement of vehicles. Office-goers were severely affected, as the rain did not recede till 10 a.m.

While the rain brought relief from the heat that was felt during the last week, it affected the routine of many vegetable and fruit vendors.

Business was affected at the wholesale vegetable market on M.G. Road, as people did not turn up for purchases due to rain. The problem was compounded with many areas witnessing power outages.

Sources said that traffic on T. Narasipura Road was affected after a huge tree was uprooted due to the rain. Rainwater entered hutments in slums at Kalyanagiri Nagar, N.R. Mohalla and Ramanuja Road causing anxiety among the slum-dwellers.

Though a number of schools reopened after summer vacations on Monday, the attendance, it is learnt, was thin due to the downpour.
